Building a national geospatial data infrastructure

Building a national geospatial data infrastructure is an important content of the Law on Surveying and Mapping. This is also considered one of the key tasks that the Vietnam Department of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information is focusing on implementing in 2021.
 

According to Mr. Hoang Ngoc Lam, Director of the Vietnam Department of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information, the Law on Surveying and Mapping clearly stipulates the responsibility of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to preside over and coordinate with ministries, branches and localities. method to develop a Development Strategy and Plan to implement the national geospatial data infrastructure and submit it to the Government for approval.

To build a national geospatial data infrastructure, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment will preside over the development of the Development Strategy and Implementation Plan; develop mechanisms, policies and resources to organize and implement; select and develop technology, develop standards and technical regulations on national geospatial data infrastructure. In addition, building and integrating geospatial data and building and operating the Vietnam Geospatial Information Portal and geospatial data applications and services.

Accordingly, the national geospatial data infrastructure must ensure that geospatial data is standardized and fully gathered from ministries, branches, localities, organizations and individuals; updated regularly to meet the requirements of State management, socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security; preventing and combating natural disasters, rescuing and rescuing, overcoming environmental incidents, and responding to climate change; improving people "s; Convenient for providing public services; ensuring interconnection with geospatial data infrastructure of regional and international countries.

Also according to Mr. Lam, currently, the Department is focusing on building the Vietnam Geospatial Information Portal and integrating framework data (Test version) to serve as a basis for establishing a construction and operation project. Vietnam Geospatial Information Portal submits to the Minister to report to the Prime Minister for approval of the Project. The construction of the Vietnam Geospatial Information Portal will contribute to sharing, converting, analyzing, integrating, looking up and downloading framework and specialized data.
